The Meta Quest 3 has been Announced - What's new?
The Meta Quest 3 has been announced and is packed with new features. Let's take a look!
Meta has revealed additional details about the Quest 3 headset. This VR headset, which was already hinted at in June, is slated for release on October 10th with a price tag of 549 euros. Aside from supporting virtual reality, this headset put some extra effort in the AR capabilities as well.
When users put on the Meta Quest 3, they see their real surroundings through the passthrough camera. Applications can adapt to this real-world view. Moreover, users can perform 3D scans of their environment, enabling apps and games to utilize real-world surfaces for various purposes, like projecting virtual objects. This opens up all kind of possibilities regarding AR gaming.

Under the hood, the headset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 SoC, a significant upgrade from the XR2 found in the Quest 2. The Gen 2 SoC delivers double the graphical power, which can result in much nicer visuals compared to the previous model. For example, take a look at these comparison videos:
The Snapdragon includes a modem with Wi-Fi 6E support. Additionally, the LCD screens offer an impressive resolution of 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye, surpassing the Quest 2's 1832 x 1920 pixels, and they can achieve refresh rates of either 90Hz or 120Hz. The Quest 3 is set to launch on October 10th, starting at 549 euros for the 128GB version, with a 512GB variant available for 699 euros.
Mark Zuckerberg also mentioned that support for gaming via Xbox Game Pass on Quest headsets is expected to arrive in December. Furthermore, Microsoft 365 apps, such as Excel and Word, will be made available on these headsets later this year.
